Waikiki Steel Guitar Week
Joey Misailidis

Joey Misailidis

Joey has enjoyed Hawaiian music from an early age. She particularly admired the music of Aunty Genoa Keawe, and dreamed of playing beautiful Hawaiian music on the steel guitar. Joey has been fortunate to have the opportunity to study the steel guitar under the guidance of Kumu Alan Akaka.

Joey, now 18, has been studying steel guitar for five years and is one of the Ke Kula Mele NextGen steel guitar players. She recently graduated from Punahou and is the recipient of the prestigious Cameron Impact Scholarship, which covers four years at any college in the U.S. She plans to attend Cornell University and major in environmental engineering

When she is not playing the steel guitar, Joey immerses herself in her other interests: competitive swimming, volleyball, robotics, and playing the double bass.
